The Association of Courthouse Recreation (ACHR) provides an opportunity for Virginia Beach boys and girls age 5 to 16 to play recreational basketball in a positive, instructive and supportive environment, with an emphasis in sportsmanship and teamwork.
ACHR offers separate divisions for Boys and Girls.
The number of teams available is usually determined by the number of school gyms we can secure from the city and the number of volunteer head coaches and assistant coaches we have.

BASKETBALL REGISTRATIONOnline registration starts in September and typically runs through December. ACHR's basketball registration fee is $85. After November 15th, ACHR will continue to accept late registrations on a space available basis. A $20 non-refundable late fee added to the registration beginning November 15, 2023.
Teams will be put together November 18th so we encourage everyone to sign up early. If you are returning to your team from the previous season, you must signup before Draft Day on November 18th.
BASKETBALL PRACTICES
Head Coaches will contact their players the week after the Draft to provide team practice and contact information. Basketball practices start the first week of December subject to VA Beach Parks and Recreation school availability.

BASKETBALL DRAFTThe ACHR Boys and Girls Team Drafts take place this year on Saturday November 18, 2023 at Birdneck Elementary School.
Please read the guidelines:
Players who are playing in the same age division that they played in last year and wish to return to the same team & coach do not need to attend. They will automatically be assigned to that team.
Some age groups will be a Blind Draft and players do not attend. Names are pulled out of a hat.
Players that should attend the Live Draft will be notified Thursday by email to attend.
The Live Draft age groups will each have a 30-45 minute+/- group workout prior to the coaches Live Draft. The Draft Day workout schedule is available above.
1. Boys playing in the 6-7 age level will be assigned teams in a Blind Draft and Players Do Not Need to Attend Draft Day.
2. Girls playing in the 6-8 age level will be assigned teams in a Blind Draft and These Players Do Not Need to Attend Draft Day.
3. 16U Boys will only have 1 team and Do Not Need to Attend Draft Day.
4. Players in all other divisions who played in the same division last year and are returning to last years team Do Not Need to Attend Draft Day
Everyone who does not meet one of the 4 criteria above should plan on attending draft day.
For a player to be Draft eligible, the player must be registered at www.courthouserec.org with all fees paid. In accordance with the ACHR Draft Policy, all Basketball Coordinators are obligated to hold a Draft (Blind or Live). All Drafts are under the supervision of the Draft Coordinator or an Executive Board member appointed by the ACHR President.
PARENT/PLAYER REQUESTS FOR A PLAYING BUDDY, COACH, CARPOOL, ETC. WILL ONLY BE ALLOWED FOR THE ENTRY LEVEL DIVISIONS OF EACH SPORT. THESE REQUESTS WILL BE HONORED UP UNTIL DRAFT DAY. AFTER DRAFT DAY, TEAMS ARE FORMED AND PLAYERS ARE ONLY ACCEPTED BASED ON SPACE AVAILABILITY. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE REQUESTS WILL BE HONORED SO SIGN UP EARLY.
Entry level is our 6 to 7 year old Junior Farm Boys and our 6 to 8 year old Junior Farm Girls Basketball teams. We are not able to approve requests in any other age groups.
In accordance with the ACHR Draft Policy, returning players to the same age level have a right to return to their team. When a returning player moves from one age level to another age level, they must re-enter the Draft. Exceptions are made for the Head Coaches son/daughter or when an Assistant Coaches Option has been executed PRIOR to the Draft (see Draft Policy). Please note there is only 1 Assistant Coach Option per team.
Players Registering after the draft are assigned to Teams that have a opening (less than 10 players) and follow the draft order determined on Draft Day.
Requests for specific coach/team can not be honored after Draft Day.
