The Association of Courthouse Recreation (ACHR) provides an opportunity for Virginia Beach boys and girls age 5 to 16 to play recreational basketball in a positive, instructive and supportive environment, with an emphasis in sportsmanship and teamwork.
ACHR offers separate divisions for Boys and Girls.
The number of teams available is usually determined by the number of school gyms we can secure from the city and the number of volunteer head coaches and assistant coaches we have.

BASKETBALL REGISTRATIONOnline registration starts in September and typically runs through December. ACHR's basketball registration fee is $65. After November 14th, ACHR will continue to accept late registrations on a space available basis. A $20 non-refundable late fee added to the registration beginning November 15, 2022.
The Latest Roster cutoff date is February 1st however registration is typically closed in December or early January depending on roster space availability.
BASKETBALL DRAFT
The ACHR Boys and Girls Team Drafts take place this year on Saturday November 19, 2022 at Birdneck Elementary School.
Boys playing in the 10 to 12 year old, 13 to 14 years old and the 15-16 year old age groups are strongly encouraged to attend draft day.
These age groups will each have a 45 minute+/- group workout prior to the coaches Live Draft. The Draft Day workout schedule will be posted on our website as soon as it is available.
Boys playing in the 6-7 and 8-9 divisions will be assigned teams in a Blind Draft and Players Do Not Need to Attend Draft Day.
All Girls playing in All Age Levels will be assigned teams in a Blind Draft and These Players Do Not Need to Attend Draft Day.
For all others to be Draft eligible, Players must be registered with all fees paid. In accordance with the ACHR Draft Policy, all Basketball Coordinators are obligated to hold a Draft (Blind or Live). All Drafts are under the supervision of the Draft Coordinator or an Executive Board member appointed by the ACHR President.

BASKETBALL PRACTICES
Head Coaches will contact their players the week after the Draft to provide team practice and contact information. After the Draft, Practice Schedules will be made available to Head Coaches after the Thanksgiving Holiday. Basketball practices usually start the first week of December subject to VA Beach Parks and Recreation school availability.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
PARENT/PLAYER REQUESTS TEAM, PLAYING BUDDY, ETC. WILL ONLY BE ALLOWED FOR THE ENTRY LEVEL DIVISIONS OF EACH SPORT. THESE REQUESTS WILL BE HONORED UP UNTIL THE LATE FEE DATE. WHILE WE WILL ATTEMPT TO HONOR ANY PLAYER/PARENT REQUESTS AFTER THE LATE FEE DATE THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THESE REQUESTS WILL BE HONORED.
For Our Basketball program, entry level is considered as players registered for our 6 to 7 year old Junior Farm Boys and our 6 to 8 year old Junior Farm Girls Basketball teams. We are not able to approve requests in any other age groups.
In accordance with the ACHR Draft Policy, when a returning player moves from one age level to another age level, they must re-enter the Draft. Exceptions are made for the Head Coaches son/daughter or when an Assistant Coaches Option has been executed PRIOR to the Draft (see Draft Policy).
Players Registering after the draft are assigned to:
1. Teams that have an roster opening (less than 10 players) and then
2. In the draft selection order.
Requests for specific coach/team can not be honored.
